If internet reports are to be believed, the Windows Phone 7, the latest version of Windows Mobile SmartPhone operating system, is set for a US launch on October 21. Or is it November 8? One report posted by tech news site Neowin also claims the OS will first arrive in the UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Well, there is not much to substantiate these reports besides an assurance that the news comes from reliable ‘sources.’ Meanwhile, there is also buzz (mostly fanned by an ‘Engadget’ report) that Microsoft will unveil the software in the US on October 11. A few devices working on the new OS are also expected to be showcased at this event. Another report claims the company will hold a press conference in London on October 11 where it will unveil the OS. Devices running on the new OS though are expected to hit the shelves on October 21.

The more you read about these dates, the more confusing the picture gets. But then it’s an eagerly-awaited launch. So, the speculation is not unusual. The launch is also expected to be big, what with the company reportedly pumping in half a billion dollars at marketing for the new OS worldwide. For the moment though, this is about all the info that is available. Watch this space for more.
