Tiny Core has been popular for taking lightweight Linux distributions to a new level. Tiny Core Linux is a very small (10 MB) minimal Linux GUI Desktop and it is based on Linux 2.6 kernel, Busybox, Tiny X and Fltk. The release of Tiny Core Linux 3.0 signifies a major update for Tiny core. Tiny Core 3.0 includes a host of new features, packages, and a huge list of updates. It comes with an updated Linux kernel, as well as a 64-bit version, and support for the EXT4 file system. Many packages like Xorg, BusyBox, Zlib and many more have been updated as well.

“All new kernel, modules, libraries, and support for unlimited loops make up the new Tiny Core / Micro Core 3.0. Freedesktop support and many improvements to Apps Audit and OnDemand features. Also support for RAID disks and new bootcode to blacklist modules,” an announcement on the Tiny Core homepage read.

  • The swap partition is now compressed in RAM enabling Tiny Core to run longer and with less crashes due to lack of memory space
