Layar is a famous augmented reality app for the iPhone. After a long gap Layar is back in the App Store and is available for the iPhone 3GS. The latest version of Layar makes heavy use of the compass to display the Reality View which requires you to have an iPhone 3GS. The new Layar Reality Browser has a re-engineered engine which makes the app light, stable and very quick. For those of who who do not know about “Augmented Reality” – “Augmented Reality(AR) is a field of computer research which deals with the combination of real-world and computer-generated data (virtual reality), where computer graphics objects are blended into real footage in real time.”

The Layar Reality Browser for iPhone displays real time digital information on top of reality in the camera screen. While looking through your iPhone camera lens you can find information about popular bars and shops, touristic information of the area, play a live game and do lot more. The Layar app works with GPS and compass to determine location and the direction the Phone is facing. The camera input provides the reality and the location is used to retrieve the layer information with coordinates and other relevant data.
