ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 Operating System was announced by Michael Proper from the ClearFoundation. The new release is based on CentOS 5.5. Apart from various improvements and fixes, important features like security and overall performance have also been added. ClearOS 5.2 is a network & gateway solution created specifically for small businesses and distributed environments. It is a Linux server based on the open source CentOS distribution, which is in turn based on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

ClearOS Enterprise operating system, which was previously known as ClarkConnect, provides useful modules like VPN, Antispam, antivirus, content filtering, SSL certification, web log analyzer or bandwidth management. It includes a host of integrated services and features that are easy to configure and administer via an ingenious web-based interface.

ClearOS Enterprise 5.2 Features

  • It is based on CentOS 5.5 operating system
  • A password policy engine module has been added in order to enhance the security.
  • Comprehensive disk usage reporting module has been added ·in order to improve utilization.
  • A network traffic analyzer module has been added in order to detect bandwidth challenges with ease
  • A custom firewall module was added in order to create advanced iptables rules.
  • H.323 support has been provide for VOIP systems
  • Enhanced support for Zarafa and Google Apps in LDAP Directory.

Moreover, since ClearOS is open source, it can be downloaded and upgraded for free. It is supported with free security updates for 18 months.

ClearOS 5.x supports upgrades from ClarkConnect 4.x and later. When you run the ClearOS installer, make sure you select the upgrade option and also don’t forget to backup any critical data.

Upgrading from ClearOS Enterprise 5.1

  1. yum clean all
  2. yum install app-upgradeto52
  3. yum upgrade

Upgrading from ClarkConnect 5.0

  1. yum install app-upgradeto52
  2. rpm -e –justdb –nodeps system-logos
  3. yum upgrade
