The new 9 series ultra lightweight and portable notebook from Samsung, unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2011), managed to attract many eyeballs. It is encased in a sleek aluminum body similar to its television sets and comes packed in a duralumin body to enhance the durability of the device.

It is being pushed as the slimmest and lightest 13-inch notebook in the market. Samsung has integrated an LED backlit 13.3 inch screen for the display which has a resolution of 1366×768. It weighs a mere 2.89 pounds and is 0.68 inches thick. The keyboard, with its distinctive backlighting, is also quite aesthetic.

The 9 Series Notebook is powered by a core i5 2537M processor, which can be ramped up to 2.3 GHz (SandyBridge) processor. It has 4GB RAM, a 128 GH solid state drive and superb Intel HD GT2 graphics chipset. Adding punch to this combo is the music system comprising two inbuilt 1.5W speakers with a 1.5W sub-woofer.

The Notebook is powered by a Lithium Polymer battery pack with an estimated 6 hour life.

The notebook comes with standard Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi’n’, USB 3.0, mini HDMI and Ethernet connection.

It looks poised to take the MacBook Air head on and comes out ahead on some points. It is priced at US $1600 with no specific details about availability.
