Redsn0w is a jailbreaking tool for iPhone which was not updated from long time. Redsn0w cannot be used to jailbreak iPhone with the latest 3.1.2 OS. But alternatively you can use blackra1n to jailbreak your iPhone/iPod Touch with latest 3.1.2 firmware. If you are a fan of Redsn0w then you will be delighted to hear that the latest version of Redsn0w will be coming soon which will allow you to jailbreak iPhone with firmware 3.1.2. Use Redsn0w 0.9 to Jailbreak iPhone With 3.1.2 Firmware

MuscleNerd has managed to recover the long lost source code to redsn0w and will port it to 3.1.2 firmware (mac+win+linux). Redsn0w 0.9 is still a tethered jailbreak similar to blackra1n and supports iPhone 3GS, latest iPod Touch 2G, all 3rd Gen iPod Touch. redsn0w 0.9 will also support custom boot logo and recovery logo. Any custom logo that should be used with Redsnow should be a PNG file with 320×480 resolution. Windows version of redsn0w 0.9 will be released first followed by Mac version and Linux version.

Though redsn0w 0.9 will not support tethered jailbreak, you can give it a try if you are facing issues with blackra1n or if you are interested in personalizing your boot logo and recovery logo.
