GreenPois0n iOS 4.2.1 Tethered Jailbreak to Release Within a Few Days: P0sixninja

Written By Sam on 23 November 2010

Finally, an ETA from the Chronic Dev Team? Developer and hacker Joshua Hill aka p0sixninja from the team has informed that an updated GreenPois0n jailbreak tool will soon be released for the latest iOS 4.2.1 firmware. GreenPois0n, based on the Limera1n bootrom exploit by GeoHot, is known to pwn current iOS devices for life. It is a tethered jailbreak, requiring the user to boot it into a jailbroken state on every reboot.

The p0sixninja Tweet, which revealed an ETA is around the corner, said:

GreenPois0n should be updated to support 4.2.1 (tethered or semitethered) within a few days.”

This jailbreak is likely to apply to new devices like:

  • iPhone 3GS (new bootrom)
  • iPhone 4
  • iPad
  • iPod touch 2G (MC Model)
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G.

Old devices including iPhone 3GS (old bootrom), iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model) and iPhone 3G can be jailbroken-untethered using tools like Redsn0w.

The next much-awaited update would be an untethered hack for iOS 4.2.1. Watch this space for more.
