Nikon has released the Coolpix P7000, the flagship model in its Coolpix series. The model is being promoted as a fun camera that incorporates advanced shooting functions with a feel similar to that of digital SLR cameras. 

The 10.1 mega pixel P7000 comes equipped with a 7.1X optical zoom Nikkor lens that covers a range of focal lengths beginning at the wide-angle 28mm (equivalent with 35mm [135] format), and features a 1/1.7-inch, RGB CCD image sensor, 6-blade iris diaphragm, an image-processing engine Expeed C2, and optical characteristics. The P7000 is reportedly the first Coolpix camera to be equipped with a built-in neutral density (ND) filter that reduces the amount of light that passes through the lens, enabling a three-stop decrease in shutter speed. This allows you to apply slower shutter speeds to shooting in bright surroundings. The camera’s high-speed response is designed to capture fleeting scenes. It comes with support for Nikon’s exclusive RAW (NRW) format and recording of HD movies with stereo sound.

The camera allows macro photography enabling users to shoot images as close as 2 cm (0.8 in.) to the lens. Among features pertaining to camera settings are Zoom Memory and Tone Level Information display, aimed at providing greater control over shooting and resulting images. The model also has a number of high-sensitivity shooting functions to choose from depending upon shooting conditions, high-speed response and controls that support intuitive operation. Other such functions include low noise night mode, noise reduction filter and long exposure NR that reduces the noise that occurs with shooting in dark surroundings at slow shutter speeds.

The camera comes with full manual controls PSAM (Program, Shutter, Aperture, Manual), has 3-inch (approximately 921k-dot) TFT LCD monitor, and supports a variety of optional accessories, including a wide-angle converter and external Speedlights. If launched in India, Nikon Coolpix P7000 is expected to cost approximately Rs. 30,000 ~ Rs. 35,000.
