Here’s word on the iREB tool for iOS users. The tool allows you to pwn your device by bypassing the errors so that you can upload custom firmware to it. If you haven’t been following the jailbreak scene lately, here’s the update. iH8sn0w recently released iREB 4.1. It is an iTunes restore error bypasser that supports new and old devices alike, including:

  • iPhone 2G
  • iPhone 3G
  • iPhone 3G[S] (old & new bootrom
  • iPhone
  • iPod Touch 1
  • iPod Touch 2G (MB & MC
  • iPod Touch 3

Here are the main download links:

To achieve the desired results, download iREB from the link above and follow the step-by-step guide to tweak/cook your custom firmware with Sn0wbreeze (for Windows) and PwnageTool (for Mac).

Step 1: Start iTunes 10.x and place the iOS device in DFU mode. Make sure you press and hold the Home button as well as the Power button down simultaneously. Wait a while – for about 10 seconds atleast before releasing the Power button. Don’t let go of the home button till you see the iTunes message notifying you that it has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. The iPhone/iPod touch screen goes black at this stage.

Step 2: Close iTunes and start iREB on Windows.

Step 3: Select your device and wait on till you see red or white screen on your device.

Step 4: Start iTunes once again. Now you will need to:

  • Select your iOS device from the sidebar in iTunes
  • Press and hold left ‘alt’ button (‘Shift’ button on Windows) on the keyboard
  • Click on ‘Restore’ (Not ‘Update’) button in the iTunes
  • Release the ‘Shift’ button
  • Select the required custom .ipsw file and restore it.

The process is complete. iTunes should now be able to help you restore your iDevice to the iOS 4.1 firmware.
