Recently I wrote a blog post about the availability of “Blackra1n to Jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch with 3.1.2 Firmware” and “Procedure to Jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch With iPhone OS 3.1.2 Using Blackra1n“. blackra1n is a 30 second jailbreaking tool which will allow you to jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch with 3.1.2 OS. The blackra1n tool is currently available for Mac OS X also. You can use blackra1n to jailbreak iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 2G and iPod Touch 3G.

Warning to 3G and 3GS Unlockers : Do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded and also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate.

Procedure to Unlock iPhone and iPod Touch Using blackra1n for Mac OS X

  • First get the latest iTunes and backup all your important data.
  • Upgrade to the latest iPhone OS 3.1.2 if you haven’t already done it.
  • Connect your iPhone or iPod Touch to the computer
  • Download blackra1n for Mac and double click it to start the program.
  • Now click on the “make it ra1n” button.
  • Your iPhone or iPod Touch will be placed in recovery mode and you will see a picture of GeoHot.
  • blackra1n will run in the background and your iPhone/iPod will reboot.
  • Once the reboot is completed your iPhone is jailbroken and you will see a blackra1n icon on the desktop.
  • Click on the blackra1n icon to launch the application (Internet connectivity is required).
  • Select Cydia and press the Install button at the top right of the screen to download and install the packages like Cydia, Rock or Icy etc.

If you have followed the procedure correctly then you will have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch with iPhone OS 3.1.2.
