Have you tried the KDE SC 4.5, which has many things like the new, consistent notification area and window tiling. Now the second release candidate of the upcoming KDE SC 4.5 has been released. You cannot find many changes apart from bug fixes and patches in RC2, but this one will suit better for regular use than the first release candidate.

KDE SC 4.5 RC2 Improvements

  • Polishing the existing features and components and more importance to stability is offered.
  • The Windows are placed next to each other automatically; KWin-Tiling helps to do this.
  • To provide a consistent look and feel to all the application, an overhauled notification area which depends on D-Bus is available. Old “ System tray “ model do not exist in this.
  • As an alternative to KHTML, Konqueror users can go for the WebKit rendering engine, if they prefer to have wider support from web developers. Please note that WebKit is made available as an optional install and you will not get it with the standard KDE SC 4.5 release

As per the official announcement KDE SC 4.5 RC2 has been released for testers and early adopters who can support by identifying and reporting the bugs. We can receive the final version by August 2010.
