ASUS, known for its netbooks and motherboards, has come up with a weird, donut-shaped mouse – the WX-DL mouse. Designed by ASUS designer David Lewis, this unorthodox shape of the mouse can serve as a mouse input and also double up as multimedia remote with full functionalities. Traces of inspiration from Apple’s magic mouse is evident in this hardware. The company feels this “wireless laser device continues the pioneering spirit of the NX90 multimedia notebook, following the same bold, centerpiece approach”.

Look-wise, the Aluminium top is contrasted with a black lower. the chrome-finished exterior makes it comfortable to hold. Although, Apple has been the dominating force in this market for such combination of mouse and multi touchpad, an alternative is hardware of such nature is welcome.

The high points of the mouse are also its active areas on the top, which are actually remote control buttons for media players. The surface is understood to have been designed with a touch sensitive control system to recognize movements or finger touch. Touch sensing in any mouse is for the convenience of easy, precision laser navigation.

ASUS, made headlines few months back, when it launched WX-Lamborghini – a wireless mouse, shaped like a Lamborghini car; which was also promoted by the Lamborghini car company. Pulse Rate and Eee stick are some other models that ASUS have launched in the past.

This model may look pretty on the desk, but one can only judge its use by holding it in the hand and working with it regularly; by making use of all its mentioned features. Well, one thing can be said about this new model of mouse that it definitely offers it buyers a completely new look, a break from its traditional oval shape. If the functionalities of the device shapes up well, then the consumer has no harm in giving it a try, at least for a change.

ASUS WX-DL is priced at approximately $79 and is available through various vendors.
